PDR Rework Systems (UK) is a world leader and pioneer in the manufacture of Infrared (IR) Rework Stations for the electronics industry. Founded in 1987, the company patented its unique Focused IR technology, which has become the gold standard for soldering and desoldering complex SMT components such as BGAs, QFNs, CSPs, and LEDs.

Unlike traditional hot air systems, PDR’s technology eliminates the need for component-specific nozzles and protects adjacent components from thermal damage.

What Makes PDR Unique?

1. Focused IR Heating (Top Heater): Instead of a blast of hot air —which can misalign micro-components or overheat adjacent areas —PDR utilizes short-wave, visible infrared light. Using specialized lenses, the light spot is adjustable to match the exact size of the chip (ranging from 4 mm up to 70 mm). “What you see is what you heat” – ensuring zero collateral thermal damage.
2. Quartz PCB Preheating (Bottom Preheater): PDR systems deploy medium-wave quartz IR heaters (up to 3250W+ depending on the model) divided into multiple zones. They ensure uniform temperature across the entire printed circuit board, preventing PCB warping and internal stress.
3. Non-Contact Temperature Sensors: The stations feature high-precision IR pyrometers that measure the real-time temperature of both the component and the PCB     without physical contact. The software automatically controls the process in a closed-loop system, perfectly replicating factory reflow profiles.
4. Optical Component Alignment (Prism System): Using a split-beam prism and high-definition cameras, the operator can see a superimposed image of the     component leads and the PCB pads simultaneously for flawless micro-positioning.

Software: PDR ThermoActive

All modern PDR stations are powered by the proprietary PDR ThermoActive software suite (compatible with Windows 10/11). It allows operators to easily create, save, and recall complex thermal profiles (time vs. temperature). It handles the automated closed-loop control of the cycle, reducing the risk of human error or overheating expensive components to absolute zero.
